Ink Games: questions answered

What people ask me about Ink Games, and my answers. The project itself has its own page.

What was your seat on the seed raise, and how did you rework the pitch?

The seed closed in 2020. After that the company's own Series A came in September 2021 and its Series B in August 2022, and it shipped Prize Kingdoms. My seat was go-to-market and the seed raise, which I worked with our capital partner, a registered broker, while the raise ran through Prince Capital as placement advisor. The pitch had been defending the current build one feature at a time. We moved it onto the team's judgment: the games they had shipped at EA, Zynga and Buffalo Studios, and their reasoning on what to cut. Then we worked shared contacts together instead of dividing the list, each of us holding equity the contact could see. We took a meeting only when someone inside would champion it and the process fit a seed timeline.

What did working shared contacts jointly change in the seed raise?

I would not quote any meeting counts. The real change was in the unit of work: we stopped counting names covered and counted conversations that mattered. One list worked together moves at about half the pace of a split list, so every meeting had to be with someone able to close. The two-question filter handled that. It asked for a specific person inside who would carry the deal without us present, and a decision process that suited a seed timeline. The seed did close in 2020, and the filter stayed in use. Our equity stayed in after the paid advisory ended in September 2020, and that says what we thought of the read.
