A sealed wall, not a sheet of plastic

Building the Shelby store next to a garage of valuable cars, I chose a real wall over plastic sheeting.

The Shelby retail store in Gardena went into one corner of a licensing office that was still running. A door from the space opened to a garage holding very expensive cars, and staff worked in a small office directly overhead.

The usual move for dust control is plastic taped over the opening. We built a temporary sealed wall across that door instead. We also relocated the staff into the Shelby Building and walled that section off as well.

Plastic is the standard answer and it fails without announcing itself. Dust finds its way into everything. Beside those cars and those people, a silent failure was a risk I would not take.

The store went up while the licensing office kept doing its work around us.

My rule is to protect whatever sits next to the work as carefully as the work. A temporary wall costs more than plastic, and far less than one damaged car or one furious office.
