Let the partner with the track record answer for himself
When investors asked about HUD experience, I put the partner who owned that record in front of them.
An investor group was weighing a HUD-financed deal on Canyon Corporate. Before the group met, it asked our Strata partner directly to describe his own general contracting experience with HUD deals.
I brought Jon in right away. I told the group plainly that his reply might take a little while, since he was traveling. I did not answer the credibility question for him in his absence.
HUD financing rests on the general contractor's own track record, so that story is Jon's to tell firsthand and not mine to summarize. Answering for him would have weakened the answer and taken away his ownership of his own qualifications.
We set the meeting for when both partners were back in town, and Jon spoke to the HUD experience himself, with nobody smoothing it over for him.
If a lender or partner wants to know who can vouch for the work, put the one with the real track record in front of them. Respecting a partner's own voice is worth a few days of delay, and I will not trade his standing for a quicker answer.
