Starting with the golfer nobody else would sign
I built an athlete representation platform from the bottom of the market up.
Athlete representation chases athletes who are already famous. My new athlete-brand platform grew from relationships out of a golf docuseries, and I did not intend to open by fighting for established stars.
The platform began with developmental and lower-tier professional golfers, the players a large agency would not put first. I did not try to pull business from bigger names to start.
Going after famous athletes puts you against every big agency, each with more resources and more relationships. Building real, trusted relationships with athletes before they are famous, while nobody else is bidding for their attention, is a sturdier way to build a platform from scratch.
The platform now has several contracted specialists doing athlete brand work, among them named Olympic and golf talent. The athletes' own results speak without my help.
If the top of a market is closed to you, build real relationships at the level nobody is watching yet, before those people need you. It is a bet on people before they are proven, resting on belief in their future and not on their current market value.
