Two words and four months of notice
A phrase from a green interior design course changed my path, and I built the runway before I jumped.
A person close to me was taking a green interior design course, and in one class she came away with two words that redirected my career before that night ended. The rest of the lecture is lost to me, only the phrase remains. I reacted on the spot. I saw that construction could be rebuilt around that idea, and that nobody else in my market had worked out how yet.
I did not quit that week. Instead I gave my employer four months of notice and finished what I owed them. Those months were runway for actually building the thing, not for announcing it and then scrambling. The result was Tellus, a company I built entirely around that one idea, roughly a year and a half ahead of the rest of the market.
Those four months mattered more than the two words. Anyone can have an idea in a lecture hall. Far fewer give honest notice and lay down the runway first.
