Keeping an NBA team's building open while we rebuilt it

Tellus renovated an NBA team's practice facility over sixteen months while the team kept training inside it.

Tellus handled general construction and design for a sixteen-month renovation of an NBA team's practice facility. The program covered locker rooms, performance and rehab space, coaching areas and a player lounge, in phases over more than a year. One condition was fixed: the team never stopped using the building.

No offseason ran long enough to close the place and rebuild it cleanly. Each phase had to fit around a team that trained and arrived daily. I held every trade and vendor to the phasing they had agreed to, since a single trade running long was something the team would feel at once.

The full program finished with the building never leaving service. I take this from it: the toughest renovations are rarely the technically hard ones. The tough ones are those where the client has no way to pause their life as you work around them.
